OPEN MEETINGS PDF Print E-mail

Open Meetings give interest groups the chance to meet together.

At most meetings we invite a speaker and we finish with tea or coffee and biscuits, with time to chat and exchange ideas.

Each year we plan for lots of interesting speakers and now that we are meeting in the Catholic Hall we have plenty of space to accommodate our growing membership. Do watch out for posters around Thatcham advertising our meetings.

Our AGM is always in June, then in August we have a  Summer Buffet and in December a festive Christmas meeting.  We also take part in the Thatcham Festival in October. Keep an eye on the Gallery for photos of these events.

We have already had many superb speaker meetings. Among these, subjects have ranged from talks on 'Greenham Common' and 'AWE in the Community' to 'Safety in the Home' and the 'Living Rainforest'. We have also had the MP, Richard Benyon, headmaster of Kennet School, Paul Dick and orthopaedic surgeon, Nigel Rossiter to talk about their work.

Good use is made of our own members - Richard Hyland gave a most interesting talk on Edward Elgar and Professor Jarvis talked about life long learning. We also had a fascinating slide talk from Mike and Carol Price on the Galapagos Islands. Mike is chairman of Thame U3A.
